FMC launches fungicide that can provide long-term disease protection for corn

PHILADELPHIA-FMC is launching the new Xyway 3D fungicide, which is the first and only corn fungicide used in the factory to provide disease protection from the inside out for the entire season from sowing to harvest. It combines the most systematic triazole fungicide fluorotriol with unique factory flexibility.
When applied in the soil, FMC’s proprietary active ingredients will be quickly absorbed by the roots of the plant and quickly transferred throughout the plant before the disease appears, thereby providing early, systematic and long-lasting disease protection. The ability of flutimofol to move in plants and move outwards to newly expanded leaves has been proven, other fungicides have not been proven.
The Xyway brand of fungicides will be on the market during the 2021 growing season. Xyway 3D fungicide is specially formulated for the 3RIVE 3D furrow application system, allowing growers to cover more ground with fewer refills in a shorter time. It has been protected by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for leaf disease, southern corn leaf blight, northern corn leaf blight, common rust, smut and common smut.
In addition, FMC has other formulas that need to be registered with the EPA. Xyway LFR fungicide, formulated for liquid fertilizer application system. The EPA for Xyway LFR fungicide is expected to be registered in the fourth quarter of 2020. FMC is seeking the registration of the same disease spectrum as Xyway 3D fungicide.
Bruce Stripling, FMC Regional Technical Service Manager, said: “The use of Xyway brand fungicides in the factory will always achieve the same level of disease protection and higher yields as the foliar fungicides applied during the R1 growth stage.” “New The Xyway brand fungicide allows growers to conveniently and effectively use plant fungicides to achieve one-season disease protection.”
In studies and field trials throughout the United States, the active ingredient flutriafol of the Xyway brand fungicide proved its efficacy against gray leaf spot, northern corn leaf blight and common rust. In multiple trials, the average advanced disease severity level of these three diseases was half that of the untreated control, and was statistically equivalent to competitive foliar treatment. Across the central and southern regions, multiple studies on Xyway brand fungicide formulations yielded an average of 13.7 bu/A more than the untreated control, and the yield was the same as the competitive R1 foliar treatment of Trivapro or Headline AMP fungicide. In the 42 U.S. trials in 2019, compared with unprocessed checks, the Xyway brand biocide formula tested an additional 8 bu/A on average.
“We have seen consistent performance results from Louisiana to South Dakota on all soil types and in dry land or irrigated production. The active ingredient is very stable in the soil and stays in the root zone, where Plants can continuously absorb it along with water and nutrients.” Stripling said.
Growers and researchers also report that corn roots treated with Xyway brand fungicide are stronger. An FMC test showed that corn treated with Xyway 3D fungicide has 51% longer roots, 32% larger root surface area, 60% more root forks, and 15% more root volume than untreated inspections. A stronger root system can increase the ability of plants to absorb water and nutrients, and maximize yield.
FMC and university studies have shown that the active ingredient of flutriafol in Xyway brand fungicide provides significant long-term protection against many key leaf diseases of corn when applied to the soil during planting. Gail Stratman, FMC Regional Technical Service Manager, said: “After application in the factory, we have seen more than 120 days of disease protection and better maintenance of green and straw health effects.” “This is the only feasible, because flutimofin has Unique characteristics, including how it stays near the roots, is highly systematic and can move the xylem. Every time a plant invades, it absorbs water, nutrients and fluorotriphenols from the soil and transports them to the green tissues through the xylem , So as to protect plants from internal and external damage before the disease. This is completely different from foliar fungicides or seed treatment agents.”
Kianna Wilson, FMC American fungicide product manager, said that the residual time of the active ingredients in the Xyway brand fungicide flutriafol and the protection from the inside out against diseases may fundamentally change the way growers control disease. She is very happy that FMC brings this new technology to growers. Wilson said: “FMC has a market-leading furrow formula and novel application technology, which makes us have a different view of how to use active ingredients and how they are valuable to growers than many manufacturers.” Understand that growers want to protect their plants on the first day before the onset of disease. Reconnaissance and treatment can be time-consuming and time-sensitive. Many growers will find that through the use of Xyway brand fungicide in the factory, and get the same leaf The same level of protection and yield response as the surface fungicide is very attractive.”
Flutimofin is a member of FRAC group 3 and is a demethylation inhibitor (DMI). It is the basis of several important FMC foliar fungicides used in crops and special crops.
